Preservation of Flora and Fauna

Type of Grant Round:By invitation. Granting is closed, and wholly allocated to Australian Land Conservation Alliance until FY2021.

What are the objectives?

This grant round was initiated in 2018 and has a broad remit for the preservation of flora and fauna. In accordance with our granting philosophy and our commitment to collective impact, the grant was allocated to Australian Land Conservation Alliance (ALCA). ALCA is a national conservation organisation working to promote the conservation of private lands in Australia. The alliance is Australia’s first national organisation that brings together key participants in the private land conservation sector.

Representatives of the following organisations form the current Board members of ALCA:

  • Biodiversity Conservation Trust of NSW
  • Bush Heritage Australia
  • Greening Australia
  • Landcare Australia
  • Queensland Trust for Nature
  • Nature Foundation SA
  • South Endeavour Trust
  • Tasmanian Land Conservancy
  • The Nature Conservancy – Australia Program
  • Trust for Nature Victoria

ALCA, in close consultation with private land conservation stakeholders:

  • acts as a national voice for private land conservation in Australia
  • is developing a national framework for private land conservation in Australia
  • contributes its experience and knowledge of private land conservation to other organisations and State and Commonwealth conservation practitioners to inform and improve consistency of national private land conservation policies, programs and activities
  • is working to establish an integrated research agenda addressing issues impacting the uptake of conservation on private lands
  • is working to develop and improve the consistency of private land conservation tools and practices
  • works to increase public support for private land conservation
  • works to build conservation knowledge through sharing experiences and best management practices in private land conservation
  • is working to develop opportunities for the public to benefit from hands-on experience in private land conservation through visitation, volunteering and other activities
  • is working to increase the permanence of conservation on private land
