Is an administrator the same as a Power of Attorney?

30 May 2025

No, an administrator and Power of Attorney are not the same thing, although they do undertake the similar roles. If someone does not have the decision-making capacity to manage their own financial and legal matters, and if they do not have a valid Enduring Power of Attorney in place, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) may appoint an administrator to become responsible to manage the financial and legal affairs of an individual.
