What is a Will and why is it important?

Your Will is an important legal document. It helps ensure the right people are provided for when you pass away and your assets will be distributed according to your wishes.

Who should have a Will?

If you own property and possessions or have control over property and possessions you should have a Will.

What happens when you pass away without a Will?

If you don’t have a Will, your assets will be distributed generally amongst your closest relations. As a consequence, your close family members might end up with less than you intended or your assets could even go to someone you didn’t plan to leave anything to.

How do I prepare a Will?

At State Trustees we are the experts in Will preparation. We can prepare and write your Will to help ensure it reflects your current circumstances and is legally sound. We’ve been helping Victorians for over 70 years by preparing tailored Wills that help distribute their assets the way they want.

We’ll provide you with expert advice and guidance so you’ll have peace of mind that comes with knowing you will be looked after by professional specialists.

Keeping your Will up-to-date.

If you already have a Will, it’s important to make sure that your Will is updated to reflect any changes in circumstance, such as marriages, separations, births, deaths, retirement or even purchases of major assets. We can help you review your existing Will so it reflects your current situation and avoids leaving part of your estate to unintended beneficiaries.

Making sure your Will is up-to-date and legally sound is the best way to help ensure your assets are protected and your wishes are carried out.
