$200,000 available for ageing, disability and mental health projects

Victorian community organisations working with people marginalised by age, disability or mental illness have the opportunity to access grants of up to $10,000 from the State Trustees Australia Foundation.

Celebrating its 21st year, the State Trustees Australia Foundation (Foundation) is once again providing grassroots organisations with an opportunity to share in $200,000 through its Grassroots Grants Program. Funded through bequests and donations made to the Foundation, the aim of these grants is to promote social participation and inclusion for people at risk, as well as those who experience social marginalisation as a result of age, disability or mental illness.

State Trustees Executive General Manager Melanie Lewis said the Foundation’s focus remains with assisting organisations and people through the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other associated sector reforms. The Foundation hopes to achieve this by continuing to fund initiatives that support vulnerable Victorians to exercise choice in how they engage with and inform the service systems that support them.

“Many people experience social marginalisation through age, disability or mental illness, and local organisations are at the forefront of providing opportunities for those who face barriers to inclusion in their communities,” Ms Lewis said.

“There is a strong need to support communities, organisations and individuals through the NDIS transition period to enable a collaborative approach to the change, and prevent people falling through the gaps while adjustments are underway.

“STAF is renowned for helping support local community organisations, and I encourage these groups to apply for funding from the Grassroots Grants Program.”

State Trustees Australia Foundation is a charitable trust administered by State Trustees. More than $3 million has been provided to more than 275 projects through grants and a further $12.5 million has been provided directly to charitable organisations.
