How we can help you make the most of the NDIS
The NDIS is the most significant disability policy reform of our time: it is a ground-breaking new way for Australians with a disability to get support, to enable them to live their lives to the fullest. State Trustees welcomes opportunities NDIS offers Victorians with a disability. The NDIS complements the activities of State Trustees in helping people with disability to reach their own life goals, such as greater independence, involvement in the community, education, employment, and health and wellbeing.
Thousands of Victorians with a disability count on State Trustees every day to give them tailored, ongoing help with their financial and property affairs, taking account of existing and potential support networks, so they can maximize their life opportunities. When we are engaged to work for you, we are committed to promoting your ability to determine your entitlement to access the NDIS, to choose appropriate NDIS supports, and ensure you receive the maximum benefit from them, in light of your life aims, needs, and situation.
Safeguarding the future
To safeguard your financial goals, you might want to consider putting in place one or more types of power of attorney so you have your say in how your affairs are managed in the event that you are unable to do so.
The roll-out schedule in Victoria
The NDIS began rolling out in Victoria from 1 July 2016. It will be introduced in stages from July 2016 through to June 2017 into the following areas:
- North East Melbourne
- Central Highlands
If you receive a support payment through the Victorian or Commonwealth government, you will be moving to the NDIS at another time. Please be aware that your NDIS payment will take into account the support you currently receive and where you live.
