Ageing, disability and mental health projects to benefit from $200,000 of funding from the State Trustees Australia Foundation

Approximately $200,000 has been granted to 20 not-for-profit organisations by the Foundation in its 2017 Grassroots Grants program. These grants aim to support individuals disadvantaged by ageing, disability and mental health through delivering projects that address social inclusion, social and emotional wellbeing and health promotion, self-care, social participation and carer support.

Projects funded by the Foundation ranged from building a community shed in Warragul to better deliver activities for people living with a disability, to the establishment of a volunteer program to reduce isolation of vulnerable community members. The Foundation also funded a program to engage people with Parkinson’s disease through dance classes in the north-east of the state.

Mawarra Centre received a $10,000 grant to help build a shed for the delivery of social, recreational, educational and vocational programs for people living with a disability.

Sacred Heart Mission in St Kilda received a $10,000 grant for their Five Minute Volunteer program to connect local resident volunteers with vulnerable members of the community to reduce social isolation.

A $7,000 grant was provided to Albury Wodonga Health to collaborate with a local dance academy and offer dance classes to members of their Parkinson’s disease support group.

The Foundation received applications from organisations who were working to make a difference in the lives of people affected by ageing, disability or mental health.

State Trustees Executive General Manager, Melanie Lewis states “the State Trustees Australia Foundation has been supporting community organisations for over twenty years and we’re really excited about the scope of activities our grants are funding this year which will have a positive impact on communities.”
